Field Trip - Letchworth Village

2 Ridge Road
Thiells, NY 10984

Letchworth Village - September 6 7:45-10:45pm
Letchworth Village is an abandoned residential institution for the “physically and mentally disabled of all ages.” Permanently closed in 1996, the buildings have fallen into serious disrepair, with some already collapsing and others in reasonably decent shape. Overgrown exteriors, decay and vandalism, and graffiti abound. This is a great location for urbex and abandoned photography, or to photograph background images for composites.
Please note that due to lead paint and asbestos contamination, you will not be allowed into any of the buildings or within fenced off areas, and are expected to comply with this rule during the club trip. Even if boards have been removed from entrances. We would like to be invited back and not ruin this destination for other photographers/groups. If you return on your own, I encourage you to consider your own safety and continued access for the larger photography community. Too many trespassing photographers gives the community a bad name and tends to lead to permanent closure and/or demolition of sites like this.
Time: We will photograph between 7:45-10:45pm. Civil Twilight ends at 7:48pm. The park is open during daylight hours, so feel free to arrive early, scout, and then grab some dinner before our meeting time. Just be aware that you are not supposed to leave the paved areas during daylight hours. We have permission to leave the pavement during our field trip only.
Cost: $20/person. Had to raise the price due to increased costs. Maximum registration is 12 people. This field trip has a set cost, so please register ASAP to prevent cancellation. Registration cancellations will be accepted up until 9/4, but again, the sooner the better. If registration is low, we may open slots to more outside member guests at some point.
Photography: This will be a night photography experience. Some limited mentoring may be available from me or other members, but you are expected to be fairly self-sufficient. We will have a close to full moon. You can do standard night photography and light painting, light painting with toys, flash photography, or long exposure full moon shots. I am also working on having a few models in creepy dress, but that is not guaranteed at this point.
Here are some scouting images I took on my iPhone:
